How can blogs use Pinterest?
Pinterest has quickly grown into one of the most popular social media sites. A recent article by Tech Crunch shows us that Pinterest hit the 10 million unique visitor mark faster than any other stand alone site. Another case study, by Casey Hibbard, on Social Media Examiner shows us how Ana White’s Carpentry blog gets more than 6,000 unique visitors a day through Pinterest. This shows us that Pinterest is a site blogs need to make the most of.
If haven’t already signed up on Pinterest, here’s an article on how to get started with Pinterest and a free guide on how to promote yourself with Pinterest.
So would you like to learn how to promote your blog with Pinterest?
Then you have to read the 7 ways in which blogs can use Pinterest…
1. To generate traffic:
As I mentioned earlier Ana white’s carpentry blog generates more than 6,000 unique visitors a day from Pinterest.
Other blog should be able to take advantage of this too. The main reason why, her blog is getting all that traffic from Pinterest, is because of all the unique images of carpentry works which are posted on her website. These images get repinned multiple times on Pinterest. When other users see these images they visit her website to take a look at them and this helps her blog get a lot of traffic.
The key for getting all the traffic just like Anna White’s blog is to have a lot of unique images and a good pin description.
Another blog that’s doing well with Pinterest is Mashable. If you check out the Mashable Pinterest profile, you will find loads and loads of unique and attractive images which have been pinned onto the boards and these boards are labelled properly, with relevant topics.
Mashable publishes articles on marketing, technology, social media etc. this shows us that you should be able to use Pinterest effectively even if you don’t have the most attractive products (images) like Ana White’s blog.
2. To Collect Pictures:
It’s not just enough if your posts have good content, you need add some good images which will go along with your text and beautify your blog. Having many images in the form of screen prints, design, sketches, etc. can help make your posts stand out.
I always collect new pictures, I find interesting and place them on my Pinterest profile, so that I can easily find them when I need them. As you can see in the above picture – For Social Marketing Writing is the board in which I Pin all the pictures I feel will suit my blog Social Marketing Writing.
3. To Collect Information:
When was the last time you retweeted something or bookmarked something on your browser and found it right when you wanted it. It’s so hard to look for something you socially bookmarked or bookmarked on your browser, especially if you come across a lot of good content which you bookmark every day. But this problem is something you can avoid with Pinterest.
With Pinterest it’s so easy to bookmark content. All you need to do is create an appropriate board relating the topic and pin images from posts into the right board. The next time you want to find the article all you will need to do is visit the appropriate board and look for the image which will lead to your post.
For e.g. I love Pinterest and I make it a point to pin all the articles I find on Pinterest and I have created a board called Pinterest Tips (as you can see above), where I pin images from all the interesting articles I find on Pinterest. This will serve me when I need some information on Pinterest.
4. Take a look at latest trends:
There’s a section on Pinterest called Popular – this is the section where all the best pictures on Pinterest can be found. A popular image is an image which has been commented on, repinned, and “liked” several times (more than the other images). All these shares show us that these pictures are popular and that people like them.
Visiting this section will help you learn what the most popular trends are and you can blog on topics relating those trends.
5. To get more backlinks:
Every time someone pins an image from your website they are not only adding the image to their boards, but are also adding a backlink which directly leads to your post and these are do-follow backlinks. Therefore if your pin gets repinned numerous number of times, it means that you will get lots and lots of backlinks which will be helpful for SEO purposes. Getting all these backlinks can help your blog a lot.
6. For networking:
Just like any other social media, Pinterest can be a place to network and build relationships. You can meet new people here by repinning others content, creating boards full of helpful content, liking others pins and commenting on others pins. These activities can also help you get a lot of new followers and friends quickly.
7. To display your portfolio:
You can also display your portfolio on Pinterest. If you have a lot of blog posts or samples all around the web on different blogs or websites, you can pin them all on a single board and show it to your clients. This can be a creative and simple way to show clients all the work you have done around the web.
These are some ways in which bloggers can use Pinterest effectively. Using the above tips, bloggers can attract traffic, build an audience and write better blog posts – which will collectively help their blogs develop and grow.
