According to a report from Marketing Profs webinars are the 3rd most effective content marketing method. 63% of marketers find it extremely effectively.
Webinar landing pages usually convert at a high rate and the webinar itself converts attendees to buyers.
Therefore, if you aren’t satisfied with your webinar marketing results it is because you are making some mistakes.
To help you figure out what these mistakes are I have discussed the common mistakes made while running webinars. I also go into detail on how to fix them.
So read my post, fix those mistakes and avoid making them in the future…
Not having a plan:
There are businesses out there that make thousands of dollars from each webinar. This is because they have a clear strategy in place. They know the product they want to promote at the end of the webinar and they know the content they need to create to sell it.
Everything from the slides to the landing page to the emails are meticulously planned to generate as many sales as they can.
If you aren’t planning your webinar and are just stringing together whatever content you want, then of course your results will be weak. Therefore, have a more strategic approach to your webinar instead of just saying anything you want.
Think about what you want to achieve from this webinar i.e. make money online with affiliate products, sell more online courses or products, build up brand image, get feedback, etc. Then go create a webinar that will achieve these goals.
Choosing a bad software:
Sometimes webinars fail because of the software. This is why you should be very careful with choosing a webinar platform.
First take a look close look at yourself, your business and your audience and decide on all the features you need.
Next, go about reading as many reviews as you can on the most popular platforms available. There are both webinar platforms that specialize in a few features and complete webinar platforms to choose from. Make a note of all the top tools that suit your needs and budget. Then test them out as many will offer free trials.
Not having a safety plan:
Even though you might pick the best webinar software available your webinar could falter and it might not be the software’s fault as there are so many things that could go wrong. Your laptop could freeze, your internet could get disconnected, your mic might stop working – so many things could happen.
Therefore, you should have a safe plan B to protect you in case something goes wrong. One of them is to have a second laptop handy. Keep it switched on and login as a second host into the webinar software so that you can use it if anything goes wrong. Also get an assistant to be a co-host. If anything goes wrong they can take care of things.
If you don’t have an assistant hire a VA for a couple of hours. Some of them like PriorityVA will have VAs who specialize in running webinars. It will be worth it.
Webinar landing pages might have a high visitor to lead conversion rate, but they won’t automatically begin capturing leads out of nowhere. Hence, make sure you promote it a lot. This should include sharing on social media, promoting on your blog and creating ads.
As conversion rates of webinar landing pages are very high your ads will be worth the investment. You can boost conversions even further by using FOMO techniques as this is a one time event.
A couple you could try are the count down timer and registration popups. The countdown timer displays the days, hours and seconds left before the webinar begins. Most landing page tools include it.
Registration popups are popups that appear on screen informing people when someone signs up for the webinar. When people see that others are taking action by signing up for a webinar, they will want to too as they will not want to miss out.
These popups helped Rob Warner achieve a 80.89% conversion rate on his webinar landing page.
Not promoting the recording:
If you aren’t recording your webinar and promoting it you will miss out on plenty of sales opportunities as a report from ON24 found that only about 40% of people will attend the live event. 28% of people watch the replay/recording.
Therefore, make sure you hit the record button before you begin the webinar. After you finish the webinar your immediate job should be to download this recording and upload it onto a video hosting platform. After that display it on a landing page and promote it to everyone who signed up.
The recorded webinar can also be used to run evergreen webinars which are a very effective technique. Sometimes they produce better results than live webinars. Venture Harbour were able to generate an attendance rate of 75.62% with theirs.
Not making the most of email:
Webinars don’t just convert because of the live video event but also because of the extra messages you send out via email. Before the webinar begins you should be sending out reminders to get maximum attendance and after it ends you should promote the replay and your products.
If you aren’t taking full advantage of email, you will definitely miss out on plenty of sales as email is the most effective method when it comes to acquiring customers.
These are all the mistakes people make while running webinars. They are easy to fix and avoid. Therefore, avoid making them in your next webinar. You will certainly get the results you want if you follow my tips.
